The 9th Hungarian Transport Conference – 50th Road Industry Days once again brought together the key players in Hungary’s transport infrastructure in Eger for three days. The anniversary event was attended by experts from the client, design, construction, operator-related and academic sectors alike, thus providing a forum for discussing current sectoral issues, sharing professional knowledge and facilitating face-to-face meetings.
Ministerial opening address and professional programmes
During the morning plenary session on the first day of the conference, senior officials from the Ministry of Transport and Investment outlined the most important tasks and objectives facing the transport sector.
The opening address was delivered by Dávid Vitézy, Minister for Transport and Investment, after which Zsolt Barna, State Secretary for Road Transport, continued the professional programme. The participation of senior ministry officials also underscored the significance of the conference and highlighted the fact that the Road Days serve as an important forum for professional dialogue on the future of Hungary’s transport infrastructure.
One of the highlights of the afternoon programme was the round-table discussion entitled ‘The Survival and Redeployment of Construction Sector Capacities’. The panel was moderated by Szabolcs Nyiri, Deputy State Secretary for Road Transport Strategy, and participants included József Pántya, Deputy State Secretary for Road Development.
Our group of companies was represented at the discussion by Attila Kerékgyártó, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Duna Aszfalt Zrt. Key players in the sector came together to discuss the industry’s current challenges, the need to retain existing professional and construction capacities, and how the expertise built up over recent years can be adapted to the tasks ahead.
This topic is also of key importance to the Duna Group. Behind major infrastructure projects lie not only technology and an equipment fleet, but also engineering and construction expertise built up over many years. Preserving and continuously developing this expertise is also vital for the future of the domestic road construction industry.
We led our own technical section
On the second and third days of the conference, the focus shifted to more detailed technical programmes. As was the case last year, Duna Group’s experts were entrusted with leading one of the technical sections this year as well.
The section was led by Szabolcs Rosta, Chief Innovation Engineer at Duna Aszfalt Zrt., who focused on the sustainability of asphalt production from a construction economics perspective.
The programme centred on the value-based utilisation of reclaimed asphalt and related binder developments, as well as the more efficient use of aggregate stocks required for road construction. Particular attention was paid to the availability of individual aggregate fractions and to the question of how existing stocks can be better utilised through technically sound and cost-effective solutions.
During the session, Dániel Wolf, project manager at Duna Aszfalt Zrt., and Attila Purgel, chief technologist at Duna Technológia Kft., presented their experiences in the construction and monitoring of the SMA 8 (mI) wearing course. The technology offers a practical solution for the more efficient use of available aggregate stocks, and Duna Aszfalt and Duna Technológia have played a pioneering role in its domestic application in recent times.
We took part with forty colleagues
The Duna Group arrived in Eger this year with a 40-strong delegation, making it the largest corporate contingent in attendance.
Alongside our colleagues involved in construction, experts from the fields of business management, asphalt production, mechanical engineering, BIM, technology and laboratory work also attended the conference. We also considered it important that, alongside experienced professionals, several young colleagues who have performed exceptionally well should be present.
Nándor Kolozsvári, Managing Director of Duna Technológia Kft., held together the Duna Group’s professional involvement in the conference.
Duna Group stand
This year’s Road Days marked a novelty in the Duna Group’s history in another respect as well. For the first time in our group’s history, we took part in the event with our own exhibition stand.
At the stand, we primarily showcased our achievements in the field of BIM to interested visitors. Digital solutions are playing an increasingly important role in construction, which is why we felt it was important to highlight the knowledge and experience we have accumulated in this area at the conference.
Over the three days, the stand served not only as a demonstration area but also as a meeting point. Our colleagues, professional partners and interested visitors were able to discuss the solutions we use and Duna Group’s developments in person.
Eger once again brought the road construction industry together
Eger’s unique setting also contributed greatly to the atmosphere of the conference. For three days, the historic town once again became a meeting place for the road construction and transport industries, where, alongside the presentations, there were opportunities for personal discussions, the exchange of experiences and the forging of new connections.
We are proud that the Duna Group was represented so strongly at this anniversary event. Our forty colleagues, our specialist section, our presentations and our first stand of our own all demonstrated that we are not merely participants in the domestic road construction sector, but that we are also actively shaping it with our knowledge and experience.
The Road Industry Days were held in Eger for the fiftieth time; this year, too, the event served as one of the most important gathering places for the domestic transport and road construction profession. At the anniversary event, the Duna Group participated with a 40-strong delegation, its own specialist section, presentations and its own exhibition stand.
