An entire nation rallied behind the recovery of children with severe burns: in response to an appeal by Bethesda Children’s Hospital, 91 million forints were raised in just a few days from donations by 6,000 people. Duna Aszfalt Zrt. played its part in this extraordinary community effort with a donation of 7 million forints.

Bethesda Children’s Hospital is home to the National Centre for Paediatric Plastic and Burn Surgery, where children suffering from severe burns are treated. Their recovery is a long and complex process, requiring not only a high level of expertise but also state-of-the-art medical equipment.

The hospital’s current sand bed has helped care for sick children for 24 years, but has now become unusable. The specially designed bed distributes the pressure on the body evenly, thereby making care and treatment gentler, which is particularly important for children suffering from extensive burns.

“The sand bed is not a luxury item, but an integral part of the healing process. It provides indispensable support in the treatment of children with severe burns, as its special design makes the care and treatment of children and young people with extensive burns gentler and more bearable” – said Dr Nóra Tamásné Bese, Deputy Director-General of Bethesda Children’s Hospital.

The Duna Group consistently supports the Hungarian healthcare sector: “Once we became aware of the hospital’s request for help, as on previous occasions, we were determined to assist them. When we first contacted Bethesda, there was still a shortfall of 18 million forints towards the cost of the sand bed. By the time we signed the sponsorship agreement, this amount had fallen to 7 million forints, which we offered to cover. The real news, however, is the extraordinary collective effort through which 6,000 people raised 91 million forints. It is an honour for us that Duna Aszfalt was able to play a part in this,” said Attila Kerékgyártó, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Duna Aszfalt Zrt.
