Duna Aszfalt further supported the work on the Paks riverbed sill by transporting 3,000 tonnes of rock

Duna Aszfalt covered the full cost of the transport.

As part of its ongoing successful collaboration with the National Water Authority, Duna Aszfalt Zrt. arranged for 3,000 tonnes of stone to be transported from Recsk to Paks. Duna Aszfalt bore the full cost of the transport.

With a view to minimising the burden on the road network and reducing environmental impact, the company carried out the transport by coordinating rail and road haulage. A key consideration when planning the operation was to ensure that the movement of such a large volume of material placed as little strain as possible on road traffic. To this end, the stone travelled most of the way by rail: it arrived by train from the Recsk mine at the Paks freight terminal. Here, it was transferred onto Duna Aszfalt’s own lorries, which transported the material by road to the designated depot.

The stone delivered to Paks is being used in the construction of the ground sill required for the safe operation of Paks I.

Efficient organisation between two transport phases

The rail transport took place in two phases, one week apart. Duna Aszfalt’s lorries remained on site between the arrival of the two trains and were deployed in the ground extraction works for Unit 6 of the Paks II Nuclear Power Station, which is under construction.

This coordinated organisation of work enabled the continuous and efficient utilisation of the vehicle fleet. The vehicles were thus involved not only in stone transport but also in on-site earthworks, helping to ensure that the earthworks were completed well ahead of the set deadline.

The project is a fine example of the core values underpinning Duna Aszfalt’s operations: reliable partnership, the use of environmentally conscious logistics solutions, and the responsible and efficient utilisation of equipment and resources.
