Pushing New Boundaries: Two Duna Group Teams Conquer the NN UltraBalaton

Duna Group participated in the 20th NN UltraBalaton with two teams, an open call for corporate participants, and outstanding performance

This April, Duna Group colleagues demonstrated that determination and teamwork extend far beyond the workplace. With two teams on the starting line, we proudly took part in the 20th NN UltraBalaton, Hungary's best-known and most prestigious community sports event.

Completing the 209 kilometres course around Lake Balaton is a serious challenge in itself, but the UltraBalaton is about much more than that. It demands strategic thinking, collaboration, adaptability and resilience, true team spirit—the very qualities that define the way we work every day at Duna Group.

Participation was open to all employees through a company-wide call for runners, giving colleagues from across the organisation the opportunity to join the challenge. We were especially pleased that one of our teams also included family members, reinforcing the strong sense of community that characterised the entire event.

One Goal. Two Teams. 2x209 Kilometres.

Our 10-member team completed the course in 19 hours, finishing 231st in the 7–13 member team category. Our 13-member team crossed the finish line in 20 hours and 41 minutes, comfortably within the 22-hour time limit. This team secured 337th place in the Corporate Team category out of 860 participating company teams. This year's UltraBalaton attracted a record-breaking 35,100 runners, with 2,655 teams competing across all categories.

As every participant will tell you, the route around Lake Balaton offered every imaginable challenge: intense sunshine, strong headwinds, cool night temperatures, unexpected situations and countless physical challenges along the way. Success, however, depended on far more than the runners themselves. The continuous support provided by our cycling escorts, meticulous planning and the ability to adapt quickly throughout the race all played an equally important role in achieving our goal.

What made our teams particularly special was their diversity. Colleagues represented a wide range of professional disciplines across Duna Group, including road construction, bridge building, laboratory services, mechanical engineering, Human Resources, BIM and energy. Members of our supported running association also joined the shared challenge together with our smaller team. This diversity perfectly demonstrated how people with different expertise and personality can collaborate to achieve a common goal.

Participants unanimously described the weekend as spent in a fantastic atmosphere, and be a genuine team building experience for everyone.

When Teamwork Lasts 209 Kilometres – it is more than just a sports achievement

For Duna Group, this year's UltraBalaton was about much more than a sports event. It became an inspiring shared experience and also a true team building event. The shared goal, mutual care and constant support defined the performance of both teams throughout the event.

The UltraBalaton once again proved that perseverance, collaboration and adaptability are not only essential on the racecourse—they are equally fundamental to success in our everyday work.

Congratulations to Our UltraBalaton Teams!

We are incredibly proud of every colleague and family member who embraced this extraordinary challenge and demonstrated outstanding dedication and team spirit.

Congratulations to all our runners, cycling supporters for their fantastic achievement!
