On 26 September 2024, the construction site was officially handed over for the building of Hungary's 21st Danube bridge, which will also be the country's southernmost crossing of the river. The 756-metre bridge, to be constructed by Duna Aszfalt Plc., will connect Mohács and Újmohács, bringing significant transport and economic benefits to the region.
As part of the project, 28 kilometres of new road infrastructure, several reinforced concrete bridges, and a cyclist underpass will also be built, substantially improving the area's transport network. Preparatory works are already underway, while the main construction activities are expected to begin in early 2025.
At the Mohács Danube Bridge Visitor Centre, visitors can explore the construction technology of the Danube Bridge through interactive exhibits and gain insight into the development of the associated road network.
